Knuffle Bunny Meets the Easter Bunny

Based on the Knuffle Bunny books by Mo Willems

It was the day before Easter and Trixie was in the backyard having a tea party with Knuffle Bunny. Knuffle Bunny was wearing his best dress and party hat. He looked very pretty for the tea party.

Trixie loved Knuffle Bunny. He was soft and fluffy and he was her best friend.

Just as Trixie was about to pour tea and pass around a plate of pretend cakes, her mommy called her in to eat some real food. Trixie was in such a hurry that she forgot Knuffle Bunny. There he sat, at the picnic table, all alone in his fancy dress and hat.

When it was time to go to bed Trixie couldn’t find Knuffle Bunny anywhere. Trixie began to cry. “I can’t sleep without Knuffle Bunny,” she wailed.

“Now, please don’t get fussy,” said her daddy. “Remember the time that you left Knuffle Bunny in the Laundromat and we went back and found him.”

“Or the time that you took him to school and he got mixed up with Sonja’s bunny,” said her mother.

“Knuffle Bunny will be fine,” added her mommy. “Now go to sleep and think about what the Easter Bunny will bring for you.”

“I just want Knuffle Bunny,” Trixie murmured.

Knuffle Bunny was getting a little cold sitting outside at the picnic table. The sun had gone down and the moon was starting to glow.

In the light of the moon, Knuffle Bunny could see the Easter Bunny hopping his way. He was carrying a basket full of chocolate eggs.

“Hello,” said the Easter Bunny.

“Hello,” said Knuffle Bunny.

“I am the Easter Bunny,” said the Easter Bunny.

“I am Knuffle Bunny,” said Knuffle Bunny. “I am Trixie’s special friend.”

“Why are you outside?” asked the Easter Bunny, who had noticed that Knuffle Bunny was shivering.

“Trixie left me here by accident,” Knuffle Bunny answered. “I think that she will be sad without me.”

“We will have to fix that,” said the Easter Bunny.

The Easter Bunny gently picked up Knuffle Bunny and put him in his basket.

The next morning, a teary-eyed Trixie woke up and looked to see what the Easter Bunny had brought for her. There, sitting beside her pillow, was Knuffle Bunny.

“You are just what I wanted,” Trixie whispered in his ear.
