The Pumpkin, the Bat and the Moon

Written by Hannah Yorke Gambhir (then age 5)

Alice was a very lonely little pumpkin.  Alice was lonely because the other pumpkins in the pumpkin patch would not play with her.  They thought she was too lumpy and bumpy.

Alice was sad.  Sometimes when it was really dark at night she would cry.

Alice really wanted to have a friend.

One dark night a bat named Angela crashed into the scarecrow that lived in the pumpkin patch.  She fell down with a big bang.

Alice rolled over and asked Angela if she was alright?

“Are you alright?” she asked.

“I am fine,” Angela answered.

“Would you like to be my friend?” asked Alice.

“Yes.  I would like to be your friend,” said Angela.

Alice and Angela became good friends.  Every night Angela would fly to the pumpkin patch and play with Alice.

One night, just before Halloween, the moon came out.  Alice was worried that Angela would see that she was lumpy and bumpy and not want to be her friend.  She was sad.

But when Angela came to play she did not care that Alice was lumpy and bumpy.  She thought she was beautiful and loved her.
